Join the Kelley House Museum and two special guest speakers for an in-depth discussion of the life of Nathaniel Smith, the first African American to settle on the Mendocino Coast in the 1850s. Guest Curator Alexander Wood extensively researched Smith’s life for the current exhibit, and Susan D. Anderson, History Curator at the California African American Museum, will offer insight into the ways African Americans experienced California as early residents and pioneers. Advance tickets recommended. No one turned away for lack of funds, contact Kelley House Museum in advance as space is limited. Made possible by a grant from the California Humanities.
