The Mendocino Volunteer Fire Department has had a heroic and colorful history. From the beginning up to the present day, volunteers have fought fires, rescued people from the ocean, and responded to car crashes on Highway 1. This volume recounts the great fires since 1870, the countless rescues, and the camaraderie and struggles involved in keeping an all-volunteer force ready for duty.
