Collectible bottle aficionado and local historian Vince Johnson will be the featured speaker at the Kelley House Museum for “Sunday Afternoon With Vince Johnson’s Old Bottles,” June 10 from 4-5PM. A descendant of the pioneering Doyle family, for whom Caspar’s Doyle Creek is named, Vince developed an early interest in old bottles while in elementary school in his hometown of Fort Bragg.
A volunteer writer and researcher for the Kelley House Museum since the early ’90s, Vince was instrumental in providing details about mystery bottles in the Kelley House collection, as well as some bottles on loan to the Museum from the Little River Improvement Club, in preparation for the spring exhibit, “Up From Below: Dolls, Pipes and Bottles.”
During a dry spell in 1991, he sought and obtained permission to look around the bottom of the Kelley House Pond. In so doing, he found various items, many of which are included in the exhibit.
“Sunday Afternoon With” is an ongoing speakers’ series presented by the Kelley House six times per year, in conjunction with the museum’s featured exhibit. Admission is $5 for members and $7 for the public. New members are welcome to join at the door. For more information, please call 707-937-5791.
